The keeper of the keys.
Castald is an old word for an old office: the steward with full authority over an estate, who answers to nobody but its owner.
A gastald, or castald, was the official the king appointed to run a portion of the royal estate.
He held civil, military and judicial powers over it: the land, the people, the money and the disputes. He was the king’s own man, set alongside the powerful local dukes to keep the king’s property in the king’s hands.
The word lived on in Italian as castaldo, the manager of a country estate. It keeps its old meaning here: a steward with full authority over your estate, who answers to you alone.
The seal carries a C and a keyhole. The castald was the keeper of the keys.
Your estate, administered.
Answers only to you.
Not a gadget. Not a chatbot.
Castald serves its owner, not a platform. It should leave you in command, protected and unhurried.
- Not a toy, and not a gadget on the kitchen counter.
- Not a chatbot with a personality.
- Not a surveillance product.
- Not a smart home hub in a plastic box.
- Not locked to one company’s ecosystem.
The flagship tier is Castald XIII: home and estate together. The numeral nods to Echo Thirteen, who make Castald, and to the clocks in Orwell that strike thirteen, turned around so that the hour belongs to the owner.
A steward for the whole estate.
